Traditional and historical use
Oats, flax and fruit are among the oldest cultivated foods; flax is recorded drying on Rahab's roof in Joshua 2:6.
“For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.”
What modern research says
Dietary fiber helps you feel full and supports regularity; the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend most adults eat more of it. Fiber-rich eating patterns are part of many healthy-weight plans, but no single food causes weight loss.
Safety notes
- Add fiber gradually and drink plenty of water.
- Flaxseed may affect absorption of oral medicines; take them at different times.
